@Aichan_in_Osaka:
A sharp critique of the pros and cons of Japan and South Korea, purely subjective and totally blunt.
Where South Korea is better than Japan:
1. Trash cans are easy to find; no trash-tossing anxiety.
2. Even if you're not in the city center, there are still many places to go after 8 PM.
3. Cigarette packs have gross pictures printed on them, which is a good thing.
4. There are late-night buses, they call them Owl Buses, pretty cute.
5. Public transportation is very cheap. Subways and trains within 10 kilometers are just the base fare, way cheaper than Japan.
6. Protein is easy to get. Truly a nation of fitness enthusiasts—protein-rich foods are available everywhere, main meals have more meat, and it's flavorful.
7. Many people show signs of working out, not just blindly skinny.
8. The English level of service staff is pretty good.
9. Laser treatments and injections are very cheap.
10. Rice is only half the price of Japan's, and it tastes pretty good.
11. Benches are everywhere on the streets, really great for city walks.
12. There are street stalls, cheap and delicious. Aside from the yatai in Fukuoka, Japan barely has any street stalls left...
Where South Korea is worse than Japan:
1. The air is bad, lots of dust by the road, and willow and poplar catkins flying everywhere—a death sentence for allergy sufferers...
2. People around me speak so loudly. Oh, do you Koreans communicate entirely by yelling?
3. They stand so close to me when queuing, help!
4. Toilets are scarce. Compared to Japan, the facilities and cleanliness are much worse. Last winter I got a freezing cold butt in a big mall, I will never forget it.
5. Many service staff have an attitude that is rough and fierce, quite scary.
6. The street views look like county towns in China. Japan's street views are basically the same as in J-dramas, but where on earth do those glamorous scenes in K-dramas get filmed?
7. Seoul bus drivers must love flying saucers, not afraid of shaking a bus full of old folks to pieces.
8. Often encounter sewer odors, oh my god the stench on the street, knocked me right out.
9. Feels like everyone has similar hairstyles and outfits, as if mass-produced. Not ugly, but lacking character and style.
