Women Brainwashed by Consumerism

@沪上黑胖花:Women brainwashed by consumerism, by the time they reach 50, really have absolutely no ability to cushion themselves.

Recently, I keep seeing posts about a woman drifting in Shanghai, 50 years old this year, formerly a golden-collar worker at a foreign company.
At 50, she graduated, but can't yet receive a pension, has almost no savings, and now can only rely on 2,097 yuan in unemployment benefits each month to survive, forcing her to live in a township in Henan.

Her past consumption was:

Clothing:
She didn't buy particularly expensive items either. For instance, she liked white shirts for a while and bought over twenty in two or three months. Uniqlo white shirts for 199 yuan, buying half a dozen at a time, and as a result, many are still unopened...
Pants and skirts—well, they need to match, right? Dress pants, jeans, suit shorts, skirts of various styles, five of each.
Shoes: Sneakers, hiking boots, high heels, sandals, kept at over 30 pairs year-round.

Food:
Mostly cooked by herself, but ingredients and plating had to be high-end.
Salmon, silver cod, steak, lamb chops... had to be bought at OLE, otherwise it wouldn't match her status as an exquisite white-collar worker.
Because of fitness, she also needed various health supplements.

Housing:
Had to be a serviced apartment, didn't need to be too big, over 10,000 yuan a month.

Just like that, at 50, she has almost no savings.
If it weren't for the generous severance pay from the foreign company's layoffs, she wouldn't know how to go on living.

Really, believing in the various "exquisite lifestyles" depicted for women in fashion magazines.
By age 50, unless you're lucky, you're going to suffer.
